Phosphorescence - Julia Baird
This novel is a beautiful, intimate and inspiring reaction to Dr Baird’s diagnosis of cancer. She describes how we can find internal happiness through the 'light within' that will sustain us even through the darkest of times and also explores the practice of paying attention to our inner strengths.
Atlas of the Heart - Brene Brown
Through her personal stories and research, Brene explores a number of emotions and experiences that define and affect us. I learnt the difference between some very similar emotions (that I thought I already knew!). I have so much more to say about the learnings from this book but that’s a post for another day…
The Light We Carry - Michelle Obama
This book describes her experiences in overcoming uncertainty and shares her insightful perspectives on her (very real) personal stories. I’d read Becoming (her first novel) before starting this one
Quiet - Susan Cain
Introverts & Extroverts - Susan’s clear explanations have made me understand my introverted husband A LOT better. She gives great examples of how both traits can work stronger together. Well researched and so insightful.
What happened to you? - Oprah & Dr Bruce
Profound. To put it simply, this book explores how what happens to us during our childhood influences who we become.
Lessons in Chemistry - Bonnie Garmus
I didn’t read the synopsis beforehand and I was pleasantly surprised - a fantastic, inspiring story and very well written.
The Thorn Birds - Colleen McCullough
The story of the Cleary family over the course of three generations and their move to Australia - a classic!
